Engagement At Work - Finding Your "Why”

Let’s talk about work satisfaction and how this translates to your engagement at work.

For me, finding “your why” and having a purpose in what you do, and more importantly, how you show up at work can often be more important that the job role itself.

Why does it matter to feel joy in what you do and to have that sense of purpose?

Well, from an organisational perspective, those who are engaged and fulfilled will have a thriving culture where employees have a genuine connection to their roles and the business mission. Everyone will want to go the extra mile, not because they are being asked to, but because they WANT to! For human beings, to find a sense of purpose in the work you do can be a game changer. You can go from living in groundhog day VS waking up every day feeling enriched and holding genuine fulfilment for your role and purpose at work.

In my experience finding your why can be a journey, but when you’re connected with your values and align with your inner purpose, making life decisions and finding clarity becomes a whole lot easier. With this, job satisfaction and engagement at work will follow.

Here are some of my tips to creating the rich fulfilment you can experience in the workplace.

  1. Understanding your inner values

What are your core values and passions? What roles enable you to live by these or connect to the during your daily work life?

  2. Meaningful work

Uncover the why in your work. What is your true purpose in your role? How can you show up everyday and live out your purpose? Where can your contributions make a tangible difference?

  3. Work life balance

Let balance become part of your daily life and nurture it. Set personal and professional boundaries so that you can create your ideal lifestyle that enables you to find the right balance for you. Be refreshed, be grateful and show up as the best version of yourself!

  4. Learn & grow

Create & take opportunities at work to learn and grow to become inspired. Embrace the power of a growth mindset and take on new challenges to create new learning opportunities for yourself.

  5. Foster positive relationships

Forge strong relationships with colleagues. Cultivate relationships from a rich, diverse network so you can learn from other perspectives and experiences. Humans have so many stories and experiences we can all learn from and gain new perspectives, we just need to be open to collaboration and listen.

  6. Gratitude

Celebrate the small wins. Sometimes we are so set on the outcome that we forget the journey along the way and forget to celebrate these along the way. Recognise progress in yourself or colleagues. Celebrate the wins and take the time to stop, reflect and learn from these positive milestones that you have personally or within your team have achieved.
